Overview

Introduction

BrickID ("we", "us", or "our") operates a free LEGO catalog and identification service at brickid.app This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We designed BrickID to work without an account. You can browse sets, search the catalog, and scan parts without creating a profile or signing in.

Data

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may collect the following:

  • Usage data — pages visited, search queries, scan requests, browser type, device type, referring URL, and approximate location derived from your IP address (typically city or region level).
  • Technical data — IP address, user agent, and standard server logs used for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.
  • Cookie and consent data — your cookie preferences when you interact with our consent banner.
  • Scan images — when you use the photo scanner, your image is used only to identify a match. We do not store copies of your scan photos on our servers.

We do not knowingly collect names, email addresses, or payment information through normal use of the service.

Purpose

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide catalog search, set browsing, instruction viewing, and photo identification
  • Display market value estimates
  • Keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical problems
  • Understand aggregate usage patterns so we can improve the product
  • Display advertising that helps fund the free service
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Scanner

Photo scans

When you scan or upload a photo, we use your image only to identify a catalog match and return results. Your photos are not saved on our servers.

We do not retain your scan photos after the request completes. Any technical logs related to scan results are not linked to an identifiable user profile.

Cookies

Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies in the following categories:

  • Essential — required for security, session management, and basic site functionality. These cannot be disabled.
  • Advertising — used by Google AdSense and related partners to show ads and measure ad performance. Ads are shown to keep BrickID free.
  • Analytics (optional) — with your consent, we may use privacy-focused analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics or Google Analytics 4) to understand how visitors use the site.

When analytics is enabled, you can accept, reject, or customize optional cookies through our consent banner .

For more background on cookies, see the cookies section on our About page.

Partners

Third-party services

We rely on third parties to operate parts of the service. These providers may process data under their own policies:

  • Google AdSense — advertising
  • Google Analytics — optional web analytics (when consented)

Our site may link to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

Retention

Data retention

Server logs and security records are retained for a limited period appropriate for operations and legal compliance, then deleted or aggregated.

Cookie consent preferences are stored in a cookie on your device for up to 365 days.

Catalog and price information may be retained to provide historical charts and keep search results current. This data does not identify individual visitors.

GDPR

Your rights

If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another region with similar privacy laws, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing or withdraw consent where applicable.

Because we do not operate user accounts, we may have limited personal data tied to you. You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser, and reject optional analytics cookies at any time.

To exercise your rights or ask questions about this policy, contact us using the details below. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Minors

Children's privacy

BrickID is a general-audience catalog tool and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Updates

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be highlighted on the site.

Continued use of BrickID after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
